The Blue Communities movement continues to grow around the world, with several new organizations joining the global network committed to protecting water as a human right and public trust.
The newest Blue Communities include:
- Dalai Lama Foundation (DLF) in Nandurbar, India, which works with Adivasi (tribal) communities to advance education, health, sanitation, environmental protection, and community development.
- Frente de Defensa en Protección del Medio Ambiente y Derechos Humanos del Perú (FEDIP), a Peruvian organization dedicated to environmental protection and human rights.
- Namsal Climate Concern International (NCCI) in Western Uganda, which promotes climate resilience, environmental conservation, and sustainable community development.
- Centre for Children in Distress Organisation (CECIDO) in Lilongwe, Malawi, supporting vulnerable children and families through education and health.
Tsogolo Foundation in Malawi’s Zomba District, which works to strengthen rural communities through environmental stewardship andyouth empowerment in rural communitiesEach organization has committed to the core Blue Community principles: recognizing the human rights to water and sanitation, supporting publicly owned and operated water services, and reducing reliance on bottled water where safe public drinking water is available.
These additions reflect the growing international momentum behind the Blue Communities movement, which brings together municipalities, schools, universities, faith communities, and community organizations. Together they work to protect water from privatization while advancing equitable access to safe, clean drinking water. As climate change, pollution, and privatization place increasing pressure on freshwater resources, international and cross-border collaborationhas never been more important.
Much of this recent expansion has been supported by Roland Brunner, Coordinator of the Blue Community – Global Network for the Human Right to Water and Sanitation. Through his leadership and partnership-building, organizations across Africa, Asia, Latin America, Europe, and beyond are joining a shared movement committed to protecting water for present and future generations.
Every new Blue Community strengthens the global movement for water justice. Together, these partnerships demonstrate that communities around the world are taking action to ensure water remains a shared public resource and a human right for all.
