The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in the U.S, monitors ice cover on the Great Lakes and reports that average ice cover dropped to one of the lowest levels ever recorded in the winter of 2024.
This produces warmer waters, higher evaporation rates and lower oxygen levels, negatively impacting the entire freshwater chain.
